SHOCK & AWE
SHOCK & AWE AND ENVY
My 10 o’clock scratches at my eyes
and later that Summer dies on a
helicopter bound for Sick Kids
She was 9 and dreamed of having
a sheepskin coat like mine Called
me big girl Stole a fragile glass angel from the shelf
And made a pearl necklace for the Panther
who terrified her He had to be hidden
at first gradually befriended and bejewelled
She lay bare her envy for my freedom to buy pretty
coats and growup Brave enough to wrestle me
to the floor most Tuesdays She would be sweetsixteen

Her Song:
There’s no such thing as Monsters
There’s no such thing as Vampires
There’s no such thing as Bloody Mary
Cause I believe in Jesus
